General question regarding design with PI parts

Posted by: Ivica Matovic on

Dear,

I need to design an device attached to mains (universal) and using 2G/3G modem for communication.

Usually, it will consume approx 1.5W (5V, 300mA), but during the 2G bursts (duration few milliseconds), it may go up to 2W (5V, 2A).

My question is how to select a proper regulator (not over-sized)? Can someone suggest some part?

Thanks.
